Solids accumulate at the bottom of your septic tank.  To prolong the life of your system, we recommend pumping every 2 to 3 years. Neglecting your system can cause failure, and a failed system can:

• Cause a serious health threat to family and neighbors
• Cause a threat to the environment
• Be very expensive to repair or replace

Warning signs of a failing system:

• Sewage surfacing over the leach field area
• Sewage backing up in the house
• Drains or toilets draining slowly
• Sewage odors

DO:

• Have your tank pumped and inspected regularly.
• Keep records of pumping, inspections, and maintenance.
• Conserve water.
• Keep a sketch of the location of your system components.
• Divert surface water away from system.

DON'T:

• Dispose of any leftover hazardous chemicals down the drain.
• Park over any part of system unless specifically designed for that purpose.
• Allow any repairs without obtaining a permit; use only licensed septic contractors.
• Dump any nondegradable substances down the toilet or drain: no grease, plastics, diapers, etc.
• Dump any poisons down the drain: no gasoline, oil, paint, paint thinner, pesticides, etc.
